Why Childhood Portrait Sessions Are Worth Doing More Than Once

There is a version of this that is easy to talk yourself out of. You did the newborn session. You did the first birthday. Surely that is enough?

Here is the thing about children. They do not just grow taller. They become completely different people, sometimes within the space of a single year. The four-year-old who is obsessed with dinosaurs and cannot sit still has almost nothing in common with the five-year-old who has just started school and suddenly seems three years older overnight. The six-year-old with the missing front tooth is a version of your child that will exist for approximately five months and then be gone forever.

These versions deserve to be documented.

I am not suggesting annual sessions are compulsory. But I do think most parents, looking back, wish they had more photos of the in-between years. The toddler years. The awkward phase. The year they wore the same hat every single day for six months.

Those are the images you end up loving most.

Portrait sessions do not need to be a big production. A thirty to forty-five minute studio session, a couple of outfit changes, and a gallery of images that show exactly who your child was at this particular age. Simple, and genuinely worth doing.
